Competitive Events
Represent New Jersey FCCLA at the state and national level through competitive events! Members can select from over 60+ Competitive Events, employing skills and knowledge learned through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education.
COMPETITIVE EVENTS
The NJ FCCLA State Competitive Events and the National STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events are activities in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter projects and occupational preparation. Individual skill development is offered through the following activities:

- Cooperative: Groups work to accomplish specific goals
- Individualized: Members work alone to accomplish specific goals
- Competitive: Individual or group performance measured by an established set of criteria.

Competitive and STAR Events promote the FCCLA mission to focus on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners, and community leaders. Each event is designed to help members develop specific lifetime skills in character development, creative and critical thinking interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. The New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards for Language Arts Literacy, Mathematics, and Science, approved on April 2, 2004, have been utilized in the development of the purposes for Competitive Event. The belief that all people are winners is the foundation of these events, where cooperation and competition are emphasized in positive, constructive ways.
